Dear Parents and Carers of pupils at McLaren High School
In February 2018 I took over the Chair of the Parent* Council from Mike Lee following his 4 year stint in this role and the Council is very grateful for his input over that time.
Despite the name, the Parent Council meetings are very informal and relaxed. We usually meet at the school throughout the year on the evening of the last Monday in each calendar month during term time. I would like to encourage you to come along, listen, have your say, take part in our projects – whatever you feel you want to do! This is an important opportunity to influence the running of McLaren High School.
Last year we were behind the successful introduction of Show My Homework (SMH), the on-line homework management tool which is proving very useful for teachers, pupils and parents alike. I hope you’ve all had a chance to use it and feel that your Parent Council can really make a difference!
This year we will be tackling a few more projects like SMH, and through these projects you will get the chance to really influence your children’s’ education. In fact if you have any thoughts or ideas on what projects the Parent Council should be tackling we’d love to hear from you. Whether or not you would like to get involved or propose new projects, the most important thing is that you have your say!
The whole point of the Parent Council is to improve parental involvement in the educational experience of children at MHS and at home! There is undisputable evidence that higher levels of parent involvement are linked to pupils’ attainment levels and their chances of achieving successful outcomes from their education. So what could be more important than getting involved in your children’s’ education? The Parent Council is the best way to get involved or find out how to get involved.
Now, the Parent Council welcomes input and involvement from all parents and whilst this is best achieved by coming along to the PC meetings, we recognise that given the wide geographical catchment of MHS, this may not be practical for some parents. Therefore I’m happy to receive suggestions, initiatives and concerns by email and present these during the meetings the minutes of which are posted on this website.
